The Department of Commerce (DOC) fosters conditions that create jobs; increases the productivity of the U.S. economy; encourages the economic growth that benefits all U.S. industries, workers, and consumers; enhances technological leadership and environmental stewardship; and supports market growth strategies. The Department’s budget goes to ensuring the operation of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and National Telecommunications and Information Administration amongst many other organizations. Like other agencies, it is committed to pursuing this important mission while managing its finances effectively, which includes ensuring its payments are accurate, using only property it needs, and accounting for its finances properly.

Department of Commerce Freeze the Footprint Projects

Inouye Regional Center, Honolulu HI Lease Termination and Consolidation

NOAA is replacing undersized research, office, and warehouse facilities with the "Inouye Regional Center". NOAA will vacate a combination of ten federally owned and leased GSA office and warehouses and will dispose of three DOC owned office buildings in addition to various laboratories to consolidate all their functions into Inouye Regional Center that was built using ARRA funds.

NOAA Consolidation in National Capital Region Lease Termination and Consolidation

NOAA terminated a warehouse lease and consolidated an office building lease into their Silver Spring MD Headquarters. They are also projecting to consolidate another office building lease into their Headquarters in late 2014.

Closure of Six Census Bureau Regional Offices Lease Consolidation

DOC Census Bureau closed six leased regional offices and consolidated their functions into the remaining other six regional offices Atlanta GA, Chicago IL, Denver CO, Los Angeles CA, New York NY and Philadelphia PA.

Reduction of USPTO Warehouse Space Space Redesign/ Reconfiguration of existing space

DOC USPTO reduced its warehouse space through migration to digital storage. As process continues and storage is no longer needed for original document storage, other reductions opportunities will be pursued.
